Ottawa, ON – FileCatalyst, an Emmy® award-winning pioneer in managed file transfers and a world-leading accelerated file transfer solution, has announced that Express Media Group will use FileCatalyst’s fast file transfer solution suite to accelerate the movement of large media files between geographically dispersed offices, as well as provide workflow automation functions, to help them meet tight deadlines when delivering content globally.

Express Media Group, a part of At Television Media Networks, has a variety of distribution formats including paper media, electronic media and digital news delivery. Being under one group, they rely on 12 different sites that combine these products to provide 3 electronic channels, 3 published papers with editions in 12 different cities, and 2 digital news platforms.

Due to the increasing size of video files, and having multiple locations spanning long distances, Express Media Group relies on the efficient and reliable movement of data between these locations to meet strict deadlines. International media houses also provide Express Media Group with simulcast content that can reach up to 70 GB. This content needs to arrive as soon as possible to be ready for their on-air time.

In order to meet this demand, Express Media Group has chosen FileCatalyst’s fast file transfer technology to maximize their line speeds. FileCatalyst Direct Server has been installed across the various endpoints and FileCatalyst HotFolder along with upload and download applets, are used as clients to send and receive their content. With FileCatalyst HotFolder, more than 90% of Express Media Group’s transfer tasks are now automated and require no human interaction by a user, other than copying the file into the designated FileCatalyst HotFolder.

Yasir Irfat, Senior Manager of IT for Express Media Group, stated, “When the challenges of file size, transfer speed and delivery time appeared in our workflow, they were easily resolved with FileCatalyst’s solutions. With bandwidth optimization, FileCatalyst utilizes every bit of our VSAT medium. All we had to do was design the structure properly, and after that, the solution works with minimal administrative oversight. We never worry about our product choice, as FileCatalyst’s roadmap always covers whatever difficulties we may face in near future.”

Alan Atkinson, FileCatalyst’s VP of Business Development and Marketing, said on the deployment, “Professionals media and broadcast constantly and continually need to deal with increasingly large file sizes, and the challenges that come with moving large media files from point A to point B. We’ve been a trusted solution in the entertainment and news broadcast space because FileCatalyst allows for transfers that are 100 times faster than FTP. Large files may take hours to send using FTP – with FileCatalyst they can be sent securely and reliably, in minutes.”
